How to manage textile life cycle in the laundry process
Satakunta region’s leading laundry service provider, Lännen Tekstiilihuolto Oy, wanted to monitor and manage the textile cycle in the washing process as well as in the customers’ use. Customers’ requirements for delivery reliability and service quality are growing continuously. If you wish to be competitive and succeed, the processes have to be efficient.
Automated item tracking throughout the process with RFID
RFID laundry tags were attached to all textiles. Items in the laundry process are automatically recognized with RFID readers in several stages. Supervision has become easier: predicting turnaround times or prioritizing those textiles that are most urgently needed is now more precise than ever. Monitoring also provides information on textiles’ life cycle and reveals bottlenecks in the process.
Easy and fast production process with RFID solution
Before RFID monitoring system the company did not have proper tools to get accurate information about textile rotation speed, life cycle or problem areas in the laundry process. Data was collected by reading bar codes one by one, which was really slow. Retrieving accurate information of items in process was not possible. Another big problem was that textiles and trolleys were disappearing and broken in the cycle and no-one knew, where it happened. Now it’s all in the past.
With the help of RFID monitoring system and all the information it provides, the benefits of the original laundry service system also increase. For the company it was a significant advantage that there was no need to add any new steps to the laundry process and that the identification doesn’t slow it down. Even the installations of the new monitoring system were done without disturbing the day-to-day work in the laundry.
